Support the UC Davis FSAE Team!
What is Formula SAE?

Formula SAE (FSAE) is an international collegiate design competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Formula SAE aims to give engineering students, as well as other majors, the opportunity to apply their education to real world designs. The UC Davis team designs, fabricates, and constructs - from the ground up - virtually the entire racecar except the engine and tires; they even fabricate the chassis from steel tubing. The racecars are tested in competition against other colleges. At our previous competition where over 140 teams entered - we improved our previous best result of 36th overall to a 21st in the design portion of the competition. This year the UC Davis FSAE team is building a third generation car that will incorporate design enhancements motivated by our competition experience. Our new racecar will also compete in several Sports Car Club of America events (http://www.scca.com/) to prepare for the intercollegiate competition in Fontana, California, in spring 2006. These races will also help our pool of talented and experienced drivers refine their skills.

The Benefits of Supporting the UC Davis FSAE Team

Your Company Receives Recognition for its Support: The majority of the UC Davis FSAE Team budget comes from partnerships with companies. We proudly display the names/logos of our supporters via:

  • Media coverage
  • The racecar's bodywork
  • The team website
  • Team t-shirts/uniforms
  • Banners displayed during competitions
  • Custom marketing programs

Your Donation Is Tax Deductible: The UC Davis FSAE Team is a non-profit academic organization. Therefore monetary donations, discounts, and the value of donated materials are all tax deductible. We provide engineering feedback to our partners on products we use on the racecar. The University provides our partners with a receipt along with the proper IRS tax identification number.

The UC Davis FSAE Team greatly appreciates all its supporters and constantly refines our marketing program. Our partnerships turn the wheels of our program by providing the vital resources necessary for us to compete. We provide team photos for display, give periodic progress reports, and can have our racecar and team at supporting companies store locations for attention getting demonstrations.

Supporting the Education of Future Engineers: Donations support a practical learning environment that provides engineering students with experience not possible inside the classroom. The skills that students practice include: coping with a complex, high pressure team environment, meeting deadlines, designing within a budget, marketing, presentations, and designing, building and testing components. These skills help our engineers - potentially your future employees - launch and advance their careers.

You Can Help!

The UC Davis FSAE team needs your contribution. Financial support is essential, but the donation does not necessarily need to be monetary. In-kind partnerships for tools, parts, hardware and consumables help tremendously. These in-kind donations, as well as any discounts we receive, are also tax deductible.

If you or your company is interested in joining the UC Davis FSAE Team or if you have any questions, do not hesitate to call or e-mail us. We are available for meetings and presentations (approximately 30 minutes) to interested partners, executives, and others. The Formula FSAE Team at UC Davis was started and is maintained by students. The University only funds about 10% of our budget and we must make up the difference through industry partnerships. The 2006 team budget is complete and our goal is to raise $25,000 to field the most competitive team to date. A detailed budget is available upon request. Choosing to partner with the UC Davis FSAE Team will provide a marketing opportunity that receives national recognition, centers on education, benefits future employers, your company and your current industry partners, and supports the enthusiasm of college students in a positive environment.

Formula SAE at UC Davis

The team is composed of talented and dedicated students who capitalize on teamwork to succeed against the odds. Our track record shows steady improvement and we have out performed colleges with more experience and resources. UC Davis fielded its best overall finish in 2002, placing 36th out of 140 teams.

In 2004 the team placed 21st in the design portion of the competition, a testament to the immense amount of engineering that went into the racecar. The excitement of this success, the technical information learned, and our competitive nature motivated the UC Davis FSAE Team to promptly begin designing the 2006 racecar. The fabrication of our third generation chassis is underway. With the help of a computer model, 95% of our design is complete. This model is available for interested parties to view and is included in our presentations. We are aiming at a strong top 10 finish in 2006. To achieve this we have implemented new management techniques, new mechanical focus, initiated design and construction earlier, recruited experienced drivers, and initiated an ambitions marketing campaign.
