Background

    Matthew Thompson joined the Ph.D program in the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at UC Davis in the fall of 2005. He received his MS in mechanical engineering in 2003 form the University of Nevada, Reno. His master study was on shock isolation of a Z-Pinch accelerator. He received a B.Eng in mechanical engineering in 2001 from the University of Auckland in New Zealand. His undergraduate thesis was on two-stroke methanol engines. From 2001-2002 he worked for Compac sorting equipment designing fruit grading machinery. From 2003-2005 he worked for the University of Nevada, Reno mechanical and physics department as a researcher and an instructor.
