UC Davis Students Triumph at SAE Aero Design West


Aerospace design teams attended the SAE Aero Design West 2014 held March 28-30 in Forth Worth , Texas. The UC Davis Aeronautical Design Team (Aerobrick) placed 17th overall in the Regular Class of the international SAE Aero Design West Competition. The team learned many lessons that will help them reach their goals next year. The UC Davis Advanced Modeling Aeronautics Team (AMAT) placed 1st in design report, 4th in presentation, and 1st overall in the Advanced Class at SAE Aero Design West 2014. The 2014 Aircraft, Aura, flew well in flight testing, but crashed spectacularly shortly after take-off at competition due to engine trouble. The team was able to cobble together the scraps into a flying aircraft overnight. High winds on the second day of competition resulted in the reconstructed Aura colliding with a tree and earned AMAT the best crash award. Read more…
