-- There is no option to take exams in different time zones.
-- Students are required to have their webcam on during the presentations.

    Additional course logistics

-- Lectures and discussions are held in the same time block (M/W 12:10-2:00 PM).
-- Class time will be used for lectures, class discussions, team discussions/project work, etc. as needed
-- Office hours and instructor/TA consultations will all occur via Zoom.
  • EAE 142 – Orbital Mechanics  |  M. Sarigul-Klijn (40)
  • TR 4:10-6 p.m., Online

    Lectures

-- Lectures will be conducted over Zoom.
    -- Attendance is not required
-- Students can watch recordings instead.  Recording will be on Canvas under the Media Gallery on Aggie Video.
    Exams
-- Exams will be administered via Canvas.
-- Final exam will be take-home.  No other exams.
-- Students in different time zones will have options to take exams in their own time zone.
-- Students are not required to have their webcam on during the exam.
-- Please note that normally Orbital Mechanics would consists of four homework sets (30%), an in-class mid-term (30%), and an in-class final exam (40%).  I make the homework solutions available to the students with a notebook that I bring to every class, thus students can check their homework before turning it in.  Hence the homework is an essentially free 30% of the grade.
-- For this winter I plan on four homework sets (60%) and a take home final (40%).  I will have office hours twice a week (Monday & Wednesday) and the TA will have office hours twice a week (Tuesday & Thursday) so students can get help on the homework, but solutions will not be available to students prior to turning in.  Take home final will be similar to what I used to offer when class enrollment was small and will consist of completing an entire Orbital Mechanics mission, i.e., depart Earth, fly-by a planet, and then land at a destination planet.  Typically about 100 calculations required and I ask 40 to 50 questions based on those calculations.
    Additional course logistics
-- Office hours will be conducted via Zoom.
-- A mic is needed for office hours.
-- Students are not required to have their webcam on during the course.
-- Students must have access to Zoom, Canvas, and have paper, pencils, and a calculator.  Must be able to scan their homework and final into a pdf document and upload into Canvas.
-- The homework and final will take some time to complete.  Almost impossible to learn the orbital mechanics of a planetary fly-by from any text book, so almost impossible to pass course if those lectures are not watched.
