Professor Velinsky is an expert in mechanics-based design, which is the application of engineering mechanics to the design of mechanical systems, including conventional machines and mechanisms and mechatronic, robotic and automated systems. He has contributed to a wide variety of mechanical systems including, but not limited to, those with wire ropes and cables, the ball screw mechanism, the roller screw mechanism, vehicle systems, wheeled mobile robots and mobile manipulators, and even eye surgical design. He is internationally renowned for his work on the automation of highway machinery.
