Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering's Dr. Jason Moore Co-Awarded $5M U.S. Department of Education Grant
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Lecturer Jason Moore is a co-awardee for an inaugural $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to further the LibreTexts project.
The grant will support work at UC Davis and 11 other institutions around the country. Moore will lead UC Davis efforts to enable interactive computation in the texts and develop engineering open-educational resources.
LibreTexts’ mission is to develop free, open-access textbooks for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) disciplines. With LibreTexts, students, faculty and outside experts work together to build freely available open education resources (OER) that supplant conventional paperbased textbooks. LibreTexts currently encompass 12 widely used college-level disciplines from chemistry to humanities with over 68,500 pages. Used across the nation as primary course textbooks and as supplemental learning resources, LibreTexts have already recorded more than 250 million pageviews with 650 years of confirmed student reading—an impressive track record on which the grantfunded project will build.
Congratulations to Jason and the entire LibreText team!
