Change Your Major to Mechanical and/or Aerospace Engineering

Beginning Fall 2023 all non-major students must attend a change of major workshop prior to submitting a change of major form on OASIS (no exceptions).

NOTE: All change of major requirements must be met prior to submitting a change of major form.


The MAE department will not review any petitions from non-major students outside of our majors until all other change of major criteria has been met.

To change your major to Mechanical and/or Aerospace Engineering from a major in any College (including Engineering):

For students who enrolled as first-years at UC Davis, you must meet the following criteria:
  1. Be a registered student and have completed at least one quarter (minimum of 12 units) at UC Davis.
  2. Be in good academic standing and meet minimum progress requirements.
  3. Have received a letter grade for all courses that satisfy Engineering degree requirements.
GPA and Course Requirements:
GPA required (cumulative and in MAT/PHY/CHE) Must have a (C-) or better in the following (including any additional major specific courses completed):
Aero Spc: 2.0 GPA MAT 021A, 021B, 021C
Mech Eng: 2.8 GPA CHE 002A
  PHY 009A
 
For all students who transferred to UC Davis, you must:
  1. Be a registered student and have completed at least one quarter (minimum of 12 units) at UC Davis
  2. Be in good academic standing and meet minimum progress requirements
  3. Have received a letter grade for all courses that satisfy Engineering degree requirements
  4. Have completed all transfer admission coursework and GPA requirements for the intended major.
    1. For students who have not completed all transfer admission requirements at their previous institution, they must earn a 2.000 GPA or higher in these remaining courses at UC Davis.

Cumulative Aero Spc: 2.0 GPA CHE 002A, 002B
Cumulative Mech Eng: 2.8 GPA PHY 009A, 009B, 009C
  ENG 004, 006 (or equivalent), 017, 035, 045
