Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE)

  • MAE 207– Eng. Experimentation & Uncertainty Analysis  |  Jensen (30)
  • Lecture, MW 12:10-1:30 p.m., Online
    Discussion, MW 1:40-2:00 p.m., Online

    62014
    **GRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY**

    Lectures/Discussions
    -- Lectures are synchronous.
-- Students are not required to attend lectures, but they are responsible for knowing what has been communicated during lectures. Missing a lecture now and then is normal, but I advise against planning to not attend.
-- Nothing will be recorded and recordings are not allowed.
    Exams
-- Exams will be replaced by other assignments.
    Additional Information
-- Office hours will be held via Zoom.
-- Webcam and microphone are required for this course.
-- Students are required to have a webcam on during the course.
-- The course will require standard c or c++ compiler, ability to compile and run codes, and ways to graph/plot data files (e.g., MatLab or gnuplot)
-- Summary: The course will be run as close to normal lecture and normal interaction format as possible -- No recordings, no replays. No audio-visual recordings or screen shots are allowed. Much of the instruction relies on live interactions, especially in this format without exams. Relevant interruptions and discussions during lectures are therefore encouraged. No timed exams or quizzes, but weekly or biweekly deadlines for individual projects/assignments, which can be discussed (but not copied) among students (and instructor) as they are completed. As implied by requiring c/c++ capabilities, the assignments will involve exercises using this language. It is understood that not all students are experienced with c, but it is expected that attending students have enough proficiency with actual programming in some language, such that supplied sample codes in c can be revised and adapted to complete the exercises with reasonable effort. Obtaining some experience with this most important programming language should be considered one of the collateral benefits of the course. The due date of the last assignment may extend into the week of final exams. I do not use Canvas or similar. Instead I have a simple web site with posted information and updates, and I rely on interactive lectures and office hours for illuminating discussions. While we have to do remote instruction, this is not an online course, and the objective is to learn something despite the online component.
